Marcus took me to the old Docklands. To show me parts of Liverpool that were still beautiful, despite abandonment, destruction, graffiti, the effects of climate change and the natural grind of time. I didn't tell him I found Liverpool, all of Liverpool, beautiful because of those things. Or at least not despite. In the same way I found Maria beautiful, the burden of time, fear and the impending end of the world do not detract from the humour in her eyes, the deep wrinkles around her lips don't negate the kind words she says, nor the sarcastic ones. Perhaps I look at this city with a fresher perspective. I've found friendship and compassion, welcomed as a guest instead of a threat. I know how lucky I am. The water levels have risen significantly since the old docks were last used. Marcus tells me of a memory, of when he was a little kid. He was here with his mum, the place was filled with people, shops, cafes, boats that people lived in or took pleasure tours with. All gone. But on a sunny day the water still glitters and you can still see the boats. Some of the taller ones at least. #10secondstomidnight #dystopia #dystopian #apocalypse #future #abandoned #abandonedplaces #wasteland #decay #story #scifi #instascifi #instanovel #instabook #book #words #books #instafiction #instagood #follow #followme #sciencefiction #bookgram #reading #writing #writer #bookphotography #doomsday #doomsdayclock by 10secondstomidnight2045
